1995
Mission presentation:
In 1996 Francois Bizot, director of the Ecole Francaise d’Extreme Orient (EFEO) in Lao PDR, organized a symposium on heritage conservation projects in Lao PDR for which the architects of Les Ateliers de la Péninsule presented Luang Prabang urban and architectural studies that allow the city to be nominated on UNESCO World heritage list in 1995.
These studies raised the city urban development history from its traditional urban fabric layout to its present urban organization that shows the historical impact of cultural foreign influences that occurred through the French colonial period from 1910 to 1925 during which:
1 – Luang Prabang city administration buildings where built following a French new urban layout and architecture style
2 – Appear some Vietnamese and Chinese influences due to the settlements of these trading communities who imported also architecture styles.
